East Street Loft
Overview
Tucked away on one of Southwold’s most loved streets, East Street Loft is a romantic hideaway just moments from the beach. Designed for two, the apartment blends boutique-hotel style with the privacy of your own space, perfect for couples looking for a relaxed coastal escape.
Inside, the loft is finished to a high standard with elegant touches including a king-size brass bed and a modern bathroom, while kitchen opens onto a sunny roof terrace - ideal for an early evening drink after a day by the sea. From the bedroom window you can even glimpse the water, a reminder that the shoreline, along with Southwold’s cafés, pubs and independent shops, are all just a short stroll away.

The Owners
Your host Penny is a teacher and writer with a love for travel, interiors and the simple pleasures of coastal life. She has created East Street Loft as the kind of place she loves to stay herself - stylish, comfortable and thoughtfully put together.
Penny draws inspiration from her favourite European city, Amsterdam, with its beautiful domestic architecture and relaxed, cultured atmosphere.
When she’s not hosting, Penny can usually be found reading, cooking, riding horses or enjoying a pint of Adnams Ghost Ship - a local favourite from nearby Southwold.
Why we love it
Location: Tucked on one of Southwold’s favourite streets, with the beach, shops, cafés and restaurants all just moments from the door.
The roof terrace: A rare find for such a central flat - perfect for alfresco dinners, a morning coffee or afternoon reading in the sun.
The interiors: Beautifully styled and full of character, creating a relaxing space to unwind.
The Setting
East Street Loft sits in the heart of Southwold, one of the UK’s most charming seaside towns. Just moments from the beach, mornings can begin with a walk along the sandy shoreline before wandering back through town for coffee.
Southwold is known for its colourful beach huts, historic lighthouse and traditional pier, with independent shops, cosy pubs and seafood restaurants all within easy walking distance. Spend the day browsing boutiques, or visiting the famous Adnams brewery, which has been producing beer in the town since the 19th century.
Beyond Southwold, the surrounding Suffolk Coast offers wild marshland, nature reserves and pretty villages perfect for exploring. Nearby spots like Walberswick, just across the river, are ideal for long coastal walks, crabbing on the harbour, or settling into a pub garden after a day by the sea.

Food & Drink
East Street Loft has a well-equipped kitchen, making it easy to cook up a feast. We loved picking up local ingredients in town and enjoying meals back at the apartment, especially dinner on the sunny roof terrace with a glass of wine.
That said, Southwold has plenty of great places to eat just a short walk away. From bakeries and cafés to traditional pubs and excellent seafood restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice throughout the day.
We’ve shared some of our favourite spots in the Our Notes section to help you plan where to try first.
Our Notes (tips)
Start the morning with a walk along the beach or through the dunes before heading into town for coffee and a pastry. We love Two Magpies Bakery.
Walk out to the iconic Southwold Pier for sea views, traditional arcade games and a classic seaside lunch.
Catch the five-minute ferry across the river to Walberswick (dogs allowed) and head to The Bell Inn for a delicious pub lunch.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Southwold speedboat ride - a fun 30-minute coastal trip that adds a little excitement to the day.
Stop in at Adnams Brewery for a tasting or a pint - the town’s famous brewery has been part of Southwold life for generations.
Book a table at Sole Bay Fish Company for ultra-fresh seafood straight from the harbou (a must if you're a seafood lover!)
Spend some time browsing the independent shops along the high street - there are some great homeware and lifestyle stores dotted around town.
For a quick drink, there are plenty of great pubs within a short walk including The Lord Nelson, The Red Lion and the cosy back bar at The Crown.
For dinner out, we also love The Sail Loft and Coasters.
For a cosy night in, grab fish and chips from The Little Fish and Chip Shop opposite the apartment- expect a queue, but it’s worth it.
Spend a day on the beach with picnic goodies from Black Olive Delicatessen, then return to the sunny terrace for a relaxed evening and an alfresco dinner.
