Overview

Hôtel Providence is a stylish, family-owned boutique hotel in the lively 10th arrondissement. Set within an elegant Haussmannian building, it feels like a decadent Parisian pied-à-terre, with interiors personally designed by the owners, Pierre and Elodie Moussié.

The 18 rooms are richly decorated with velvet armchairs, vintage treasures and bold wallpapers, creating a glamorous yet cosy atmosphere. Each room even has its own cocktail bar, so you can mix a drink and settle in for the evening. With the Haut-Marais, Canal Saint-Martin and Beaubourg all nearby, it’s ideally placed for exploring some of Paris’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

The Owners

Hôtel Providence was created by Pierre and Elodie Moussié, the duo behind some of Paris’s coolest bars and restaurants, including the famously hip Brasserie Barbès. With a strong sense for the city’s ever-changing style and culture, they set out to create a hotel that captures a playful, bohemian side of Paris.

The interiors were personally designed by Elodie alongside family friend Sophie Richard, with an incredible eye for detail. Together they filled the hotel with vintage treasures sourced from Parisian flea markets, bold wallpapers, tropical prints and sumptuous velvets, creating a rich, eclectic atmosphere.

Why we love it

The Location:
Le Marais is one of our favourite neighbourhoods in Paris. It has such a cool, local feel, with tonnes of brilliant cafés, wine bars and restaurants- perfect for big foodies like us. At the same time, you’re still within easy reach of the city’s famous sights, so you really get the best of both worlds.

The Hotel & Rooms:
The hotel exudes Parisian cool, with bold colours, vintage pieces and statement wallpapers. We loved our room, The Mini, with its striking design and in-room cocktail bar- perfect for a pre-dinner drink or a relaxed nightcap.

The Setting

Hôtel Providence sits on a quiet corner of Rue René Boulanger in Paris’s lively 10th arrondissement, close to the Porte Saint-Martin and within easy walking distance of the Haut-Marais. It’s a brilliant base for exploring some of the city’s most exciting neighbourhoods.

Head east along Boulevard Saint-Martin towards Place de la République and you’ll reach the Haut-Marais, or “NoMa” (North Marais), as locals sometimes call it. This constantly evolving area has become one of the coolest parts of Paris, with artsy galleries, concept stores, natural wine bars and brilliant restaurants woven through its maze of streets. Food, fashion and art loom large here, giving the neighbourhood a creative, effortlessly stylish feel.

The buzzing Canal Saint-Martin is also just a short stroll away for waterside walks and aperitifs, while spots like the historic Marché des Enfants Rouges and the Centre Pompidou are nearby too. It’s the kind of area where you can wander for hours and always stumble across somewhere interesting.

Food & Drink

Breakfast at Hôtel Providence is generous by French standards and can be enjoyed in the restaurant or delivered to your room. Expect excellent breads and pastries, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and juices, along with hams, cheeses and boil-your-own eggs.

Downstairs, the hotel’s brasserie spills out onto a lively street terrace, while inside the dining room and bar feel dark, moody and very Parisian. The menu focuses on classic French dishes, with meat and seafood from the wood-burning oven, alongside more indulgent options like lobster rolls, foie gras and truffle-topped plates.

The intimate hotel bar sits just off the lobby, making it an easy spot for a cocktail or glass of wine, and it’s popular with both guests and locals. That said, you’re also surrounded by some of Paris’s coolest bars and restaurants, with the Haut-Marais and Canal Saint-Martin just a short walk away.

Our Notes (tips)

Daytime in Le Marais:
Spend time popping to le Marais' cool cafés, independent boutiques, galleries and great food spots

For lunch, head to Marché Couvert des Enfants Rouges, Paris’s oldest covered market, with lots of brilliant food stalls. Les Enfants du Marché is especially popular with food lovers (including Dua Lipa). Afterwards, we recommend visiting the Picasso Museum, which isn’t far from the hotel and is set inside a beautiful historic mansion.

Don’t miss the Marais’ historic Jewish Quarter around Rue des Rosiers either, known as the Pletzl. It’s famous for its incredible falafel spots- Chez Marianne is a great stop for a relaxed lunch.

Dinner & Drinks in Le Marais:
In the evening, Le Marais really comes alive. For traditional French bistro cooking, we recommend Chez Janou or Bistrot des Tournelles. If you’re in the mood for something different, Candelaria is brilliant for a Mexican feast and great cocktails, while Carboni and Libertino (where London's Big Mamma's trattorias all began) are lovely Italian options.

For drinks after dinner, head to Little Red Door, one of Paris’s coolest cocktail bars with a creative menu and relaxed vibe.

Canal Saint-Martin:
Make the most of the hotel’s bikes and pedal over to Canal Saint-Martin, one of our favourite areas in Paris for a wander along the water. On the way, stop at Du Pain et Des Idées, one of the finest bakeries in France, and Holybelly, a Melbourne-style café known for excellent coffee and creative, affordable dishes. It’s a lovely area for a relaxed morning or afternoon exploring.
