Overview

Agios Prokopios Hotel is a laid-back, family-run stay on the island of Naxos. The hotel is just a couple of minutes from Agios Prokopios beach, one of the most famous (and most beautiful) stretches of sand in Greece.
Everything here centres around comfort and ease, the kind of place you unpack once, fall into a slow rhythm of beach swims and long lunches, and feel quietly looked after the entire time.

The Owners

The hotel is run by Fagellis and his family, genuinely kind and always around if you need them, whether that’s a beach tip, a dinner recommendation or just a friendly chat.

Why we love it

-Nostalgic pull: Jack came to Naxos almost every summer growing up, and this was always the place. The generosity of Fagellis and his family left a lasting impression and it still feels just as warm today.
-Location: Agios Prokopios is an easy, sandy-beach base with plenty of restaurants and shops, and you’re only a 10-minute drive from Naxos Old Town (Chora).
-Facilities: Each room has its own balcony and small kitchen, plus there’s a shared pool. You could happily stay put all day if you wanted to.
-Genuinely great value for money.

The Setting

The hotel sits in the coastal village of Agios Prokopios on Naxos’ west coast, a relaxed seaside community built around one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, ideal for swimming, sunbathing and beach walks to nearby Agia Anna and Plaka Beach.

Behind the beach you’ll find the town with many cafés, tavernas, bars and shops, with easy access to Naxos Town just a short drive away.

If you'd like to explore further, it’s an easy drive inland to traditional mountain villages like Apeiranthos and Filoti with marble streets, old kafenia and a completely different rhythm from the coast.

Food & Drink

Mornings begin with a traditional Greek buffet breakfast, think thick yoghurt with honey, fresh bread, local cheeses, tomatoes, olives and homemade cakes. It’s simple, generous and exactly what you want before a day at the beach.

There’s no restaurant on site, but you won’t need one. Agios Prokopios has plenty of easy, sandy-foot tavernas within walking distance, and Naxos Old Town is just a short drive away for longer, more atmospheric dinners by the harbour.

Our Notes (tips)

Beach days:
It’s worth paying for a sunbed on Agios Prokopios if you’re there all day. We usually choose the stretch in front of Nikos Restaurant. Front-row beds cost a little more, but nothing crazy. You can order to your lounger, but we’d walk to Lefto’s Souvlaki - two gyros, extra pita, tzatziki and a carafe of wine for around €10. Hard to beat.

Evenings in Agios Prokopios:
La Trattoria for a relaxed dinner, Golden Beach Café for dessert, then Kailua Jungleroon for cocktails and music.

Old Town (Chora):
Take a taxi or the bus from beach and be there in around 10 minutes. It's a beautiful town. Go for dinner at Apostolis, Lithos or Typografio, drinks at AVATON 1739 or Like Home Bar, and leave time to wander the little boutiques.

Agia Anna afternoons:
Spend at least one sunset here. Cocktails at Island Bar (the banana coladas are still discussed), then dinner at Akrogiali or Palatia Beach Restaurant. Order feta saganaki.

Explore inland:
Rent a car (from Motorpower Naxos) and head into the mountains. Aperanthos is beautiful - we had an incredible cheese platter with local honey at Platanos Tavern. Halki is also worth a stop, especially the family-run Kitron distillery for tastings. Nearby Art and Nature is a lovely little shop for local finds.

Other ideas:
Saint Anna Winery for a tasting.
Boat trips from Agia Anna or the old town port - opt for a smaller group if you can.
Cine Naxos in the old town for an outdoor film at sunset.
Alyko or Plaka beach by quad with a picnic.

Packing tip:
Pack light. You’ll live in swimwear and sandals. Naxos is wonderfully relaxed.

Cash:
Carry some cash for taxis, just in case you miss a bus.

Transportation:
Hire a car if you’re heading into the mountains, as the roads are winding. A quad bike is better for flatter roads.
